Summer is quickly approaching, and we’re seeing things slowly return to “normal.” That means event centers, larger gatherings and amusement parks are re-opening
Last summer was one for the books as many places were closed due to COVID-19 and many vacations were put on hold or cancelled altogether.
Check out these healthcare traveler-favorite cities with amusement and waterparks within driving distance. Many of these parks are currently open or are opening this May. Waterparks will open this June, (if not open already).

The Jurassic World: Velocicoaster is brand new and set to open on June 10th!
There were many new attractions and resorts that opened in 2020! There are many more opening in 2021 and 2022!
Adventureland in Des Moines, IA – 2 hour drive
Dragon Slayer is a 4D free spin roller coaster opening in June 2021
Arnolds Park (open daily starting 5/22) – 3 hour drive
Arnolds Park Legend Roller Coaster is the 13th oldest wooden roller coaster in the world!
Lake Okoboji – 3 hour drive
There are many different cruise options to enjoy the relaxing view of Lake Okoboji. You can choose from daytime or sunset cruises!
Shakopee – Valleyfair – 30 min drive
Power Tower is a top favorite at Valleyfair, as you have 2 different options. You can either slowly be brought to the top and then be dropped at 50 MPH, or you can be launched to the top and slowly come back down!
The Mall of America is filled with hundreds of stores and restaurants and right in the middle is Nickelodeon Universe! What is better than a shopping mall and an amusement park all in one! There is something for everyone to enjoy!
Water Park of America – Wisconsin Dells – 3 hour drive
MT. Olympus is one of many attraction sites in the Dells. They have an Outdoor Waterpark, Indoor Waterpark, and an outdoor Amusement park. Also, if you are a mini-golf aficionado, there are 91 hole to keep you putting!
Maxx Foxx is a thrill ride, you will go from 0-78mph in the blink of an eye, go upside down twice at 175 feet above ground, and zoom thru the world’s fastest inversion at 60mph!
Gully Washer is a thriller waterslide, as you will plunge off a 66ft tall tower down three enclosed body slides, going thru narrow loops and twisting tunnels.
Safari Joes H2O – 1.5 hour drive
The ambiance is complete with tropical sounds of birds and iguanas. There’s a family-friendly attraction for all ages.
Brand new in 2020 is the Riptide Raceway featuring a racing waterslide that includes four slides totaling 486 feet long. One of the longest of its kind!
Cape Codder Resort & Spa – 1.5 hour drive
This Resort and Spa features 30,000 sq feet of indoor and outdoor water areas!
Blue Bayou Waterpark – 1.5 hour drive
The waterpark has a handful of world’s largest waterslides!
Busch Gardens is divided into 10 different African-themed regions. The Cheetah Hunt is a triple launch coaster that will launch you as fast as a cheetah runs! The coaster is 4,400 feet and is the longest ride at the park.
Cedar Point – 1 hour drive
You will be able to enjoy the amusement park and the beach in one visit as it’s located on a beach just off of Lake Erie.
Silverwood Theme Park – 1 hour drive
Talk about a thrill ride with Aftershock, as this ride will take you 191 feet above the park through a cobra roll and inverted loop, oh and you will be going backwards the whole time!
