Be Kind to Your Mind: Mental Health Month

Being a travel healthcare professional means giving your all to your patients every time you clock in for a shift. You crave the fast pace and love the new relationships you’re making with coworkers and your patients, which makes you great at what you do. But when’s the last time you took some time for yourself and prioritized YOU?

The month of May is dedicated to raising awareness about mental health, its impact, and available resources to help keep you centered. Let’s dive into what this special month is all about and the numerous resources available to you.

Mental Health Month

Every day is a new opportunity to be kind to your mind! Since 1949, May has been dedicated to and recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month. This month is devoted to eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health through education and awareness. It’s important to educate ourselves to not only gain a deeper understanding but to learn how you can offer support to those who live with mental health challenges.

National organizations like NAMI celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month through an annual campaign. This year, the theme of their campaign is “More Than Enough”. The powerful message behind this campaign is to remind us that we all bring something unique to the table regardless of our “diagnosis, appearance, socioeconomic status, background or ability”. It’s a reminder that simply being ourselves is more than enough.

The Employee Assistance Program:

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provided by LRS Healthcare is a benefit and resource that offers caregivers access to the TELUS Health EAP. With the focus on mental health month, it is so important that you take care of yourself, and sometimes this means leveraging the resources available to you. This service is highly valuable and provides 24/7 support to LRS caregivers who are on assignment and seeking support for their emotional and physical well-being.

The TELUS Health EAP is often underutilized, but it is an essential resource that can help you prioritize your mental health, which is critical in ensuring that you can provide your patients with the best care possible while you are on your travel assignment. The EAP is a confidential service available to those in need of assistance with a wide range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, stress, relationship problems, and more. The program provides access to counselors who can help you navigate these challenges and provide you with the support you need. By prioritizing your mental health and well-being, you can ensure that you are in the best state of mind to provide for your work life and personal life. The TELUS Health EAP is there to support you, regardless of what you are going through, and you can rest assured that everything is kept confidential.
